CONERLY’S REGION RUNDOWN: BIGGEST WINNERS FROM THE MIDWEST, EAST, SOUTH CENTRAL, AND ATLANTIC

A busy weekend in Division II baseball has produced plenty of storylines across four key regions that I've covered throughout the year. (Robert has the other four).

Here's a rundown of the biggest winners from the Midwest, East, South Central, and Atlantic regions.

EAST

Franklin Pierce (NE10) - The Ravens are on a roll, with a strong 9-3 record in conference play. Although their eight-game win streak was snapped, they still managed to take three of four from Saint Anselm this weekend. Franklin Pierce will host Pace this week for a pivotal NE10 series.

Dominican (NY) - The Chargers have been unstoppable, sweeping Bloomfield College over the weekend to extend their win streak to 12 games. Dominican is now 24-11 overall. They will face Wilmington in a doubleheader this week, a team that is also coming off a high-scoring series win against Post.

Jefferson - The Rams had an impressive series win, taking three of four from Goldey-Beacom. As two of the best teams in the East clashed, Jefferson came out on top in a highly competitive CACC series.

Bentley - In a huge road series, Bentley secured three of four at Southern New Hampshire, a significant victory against the defending region champions.

Molloy - The Lions swept St. Thomas Aquinas, pushing their record to 19-11 overall and 9-3 in ECC play. They enter this week riding a four-game win streak and will face Queens this weekend.

MIDWEST

Lewis - The Flyers had one of the biggest weekends in the nation, taking all four games against then-No. 16 Davenport. Lewis is now 11-0 at home and riding a nine-game win streak, with a 24-6 record overall. D2 Baseball’s Robert Frey was in attendance for the series, and the Flyers continue to climb, entering our top-25 this week.

UIS - The Prairie Stars are red-hot, winning their 12th consecutive game with a series win this weekend. UIS is now 21-10 and 14-5 in GLVC play, with a stellar 12-3 record on the road.

Ashland - The Eagles swept Findlay over the weekend, extending their winning streak to six games. Ashland is 14-2 in conference play and remains dominant on the mound, allowing only seven runs during the four-game series.

Northwood - The Timberwolves continue their perfect run in G-MAC play, sweeping Tiffin to move to 16-0 in the conference. While their competition level has been questioned, Northwood’s 16-game win streak is hard to ignore, and they are climbing on the radar of many regional observers.

UMSL - The Tritons took three of four at Drury, moving to 20-16 overall and 10-10 in GLVC play. UMSL has proven it can compete in the tough GLVC, and the series win on the road adds to their momentum.

ATLANTIC

Bloomsburg - While the Huskies sit at 11-19, they showed resilience this weekend by taking a game from Millersville and making each contest close. Bloomsburg may be at the bottom of the PSAC standings, but their tough schedule, featuring top teams like Lenoir-Rhyne and Seton Hill, has them battle-tested.

East Stroudsburg - The Warriors have been scorching hot, sweeping Mansfield and winning eight straight games. They are 24-6 overall and 10-2 in PSAC play. Dennis Pierce has been a standout, racking up 12 RBIs, three home runs, and a .407 batting average in the series.

Salem - The Tigers have won five of their last six, including taking three of four at Wheeling this weekend to move to .500 on the season. Under head coach Kassidy Gaines, players like Jose Lojo (.378) and Aidan McMurdo (.375) have kept the offense humming.

Frostburg State - Frostburg is 22-8 and now 12-4 in MEC play, they have won three of four at West Liberty this week.

Concord - After a tough series-opening loss, the Mountain Lions bounced back in impressive fashion, winning three straight against Davis and Elkins. Concord is now 20-12 overall and 11-3 in MEC play, solidifying their position as a contender in the region.

SOUTH CENTRAL

Texas A&M-Kingsville - The Javelinas went on the road and pulled off a thrilling four-game sweep at Texas A&M International. Each game was a nail-biter, but Kingsville’s resilience showed through in every contest. The sweep was especially impressive given the tough environment in Laredo.

St. Mary’s - After an impressive series win at West Texas A&M last week, the Rattlers came back home and split with Eastern New Mexico. St. Mary’s is now 21-15 on the season and just a game back from 5th place in the Lone Star Conference, continuing to impress after a disappointing 2024 season.

Angelo State - The Rams continue to dominate, taking three of four against a ranked St. Edwards team. Angelo remains a top contender in the South Central region, with strong performances up and down the lineup. They are still No.1 in the country, but based on metrics (RPI, KPI, SOS), UT Tyler may be the No.1 seed at this moment in time in the South Central.

Colorado Mesa - The Mavericks are on fire, riding a 13-game win streak and improving to 26-8 overall and 19-1 in RMAC play. They have been one of the most consistent teams in the region and are positioning themselves for a deep postseason run. The Mavericks always seem to turn it on when they hit RMAC play, and it's no different this season. They're getting healthier too.

Regis - The Rangers swept Colorado Christian this weekend and have now won five straight. Regis sits at 23-11 and 13-3 in RMAC play, and with standout Adam Paniagua leading the way, they are proving to be a legitimate force in the region. Paniagua has 73 RBIs, 21 home runs, and a .440 batting average, putting him on track to set a new D2 record for RBIs.
